Bolt Threads: Leveraging data to engineer revolutionary, nature-inspired materials

Bolt Threads is harnessing proteins found in nature to create materials with both practical and revolutionary uses. Bolt’s material Microsilk is a high performance textile, spun from the same proteins as a spider's web, and created using biology, fermentation, & traditional textile production. Bolt is also producing Mylo, a revolutionary material that looks, feels, and behaves like hand-crafted leather but is made from mycelium, the root structure of mushrooms.

At Benchtalk West, Deven Dharm, Director of Software Engineering, and Patrick Johnson, Systems Analyst, outlined how they work with Benchling to simplify R&D informatics and empower their scientists with a flexible and reliable platform. Bolt Threads uses Benchling to fine-tune complex R&D workflows and enable scientists and leaders to make better, data-driven decisions.
