Benchling Named a "Cool Vendor" in R&D for Manufacturers

Vendors selected for the "Cool Vendor" report are innovative, impactful and intriguing

SAN FRANCISCO, May 18, 2017 — Benchling, the next-generation life science R&D software company, today announced that it has been named to Gartner's 2017 list of "Cool Vendors" in the category of R&D for Manufacturers.

Gartner is a leading research and advisory firm that provides information technology insights to global IT executives. Each year, the organization identifies new Cool Vendors in Manufacturing that deliver innovative, cutting-edge solutions to the industry. This year's report recognized "'first of its kind' companies at the intersection of science, engineering, laboratories and product innovation."

Since its founding in 2012, Benchling has become a leading innovator in the R&D technology space. The company provides an integrated cloud-based software platform that includes the complete suite of tools needed to support biologics R&D, from early discovery to late stage process development. Benchling is used by over 60,000 scientists, representing over 1,000 academic institutions and 150 companies.

"We believe Benchling's inclusion in Gartner's Cool Vendors report recognizes the product as the emerging standard for biological research software," said Sajith Wickramasekara, Founder and CEO at Benchling. "With biologics R&D always trending towards greater complexity and disparate workflows, a true platform that can unify data sources and give organizations a meaningful way to interact with all their data is more necessary than ever."

The Benchling platform is a central, unifying hub for biologics organizations that comprises a Data Layer and an Application Layer. The Benchling Data Layer is an underlying warehouse that integrates into and unifies existing software systems and instrumentation. The Benchling Application Layer empowers users to interact with this data, and comprises Benchling's integrated lab notebook, molecular biology, bioregistry and sample tracking, and workflow and results management modules. The two layers of the Benchling platform give R&D organizations a real-time, comprehensive view of pipeline progress that accumulates all the data they produce and automatically associates it with relevant candidates and process runs.

Managers can compare across candidates and process runs to identify the most successful ones, and mine trends across processes to optimize workflows. Additionally, since every aspect of the software is end-user configurable, Benchling is the first informatics software flexible enough to accommodate multiple biologics workflows and swift iteration.
