Lilly TuneLab pharma-powered AI models now in Benchling
Predictive models can accelerate drug discovery by separating the most promising molecules from those likely to fail, saving scientists weeks or months of wet lab work. Now Benchling users can access a suite of predictive AI/ML models that have been trained on decades of proprietary research data generated by Eli Lilly and Company.
These models are available on Benchling via Lilly TuneLab, a drug discovery platform that includes AbLab models for antibody developability predictions and ChemLab models for small molecule ADME/Tox property predictions.
How AbLab and ChemLab work in Benchling
TuneLab’s multi-task foundation model AbLab takes heavy and light chain sequences and returns developability predictions, signals that normally come from running physical assays like AC-SINS or SEC. For example, a team optimizing a lead candidate in Benchling Biologics can run AbLab against sequences they've already registered, flag candidates likely to have thermal stability, aggregation, viscosity, or solubility issues, and send the top-ranked candidates for wet lab confirmation.
AbLab is trained on monoclonal antibody data, with support for additional formats in progress.
TuneLab’s multi-task foundation model ChemLab takes a SMILES string and returns ADME/Tox property predictions including solubility, permeability, microsomal stability, and toxicity signals. A medicinal chemistry team can register candidate molecules into Benchling, run ChemLab predictions before submitting for physical ADMET testing, and prioritize molecules most likely to succeed downstream.
Access for TuneLab in Benchling
To access TuneLab models through Benchling, participating biotech companies contribute assay data to TuneLab through its federated learning platform. This gives biotech companies access to TuneLab’s models without directly exposing their most sensitive proprietary data. These data contributions help continuously improve the models for the benefit of TuneLab members.
